As I sit on the cabin deck at sunset
stillness settles over Lake Dunmore –
on the sloping hillside below oaks and
pines aglow in the late afternoon sun;
The voice of Sophia, the voice of God’s Wisdom,
insistently calls us to come journey on,
to pack few belongings, to trust in her guidance,
to set out in darkness, to come journey on.
I slip loose the nets
I have entangled myself in
and sliding into the open water
cast my lot with mystics and poets …
Now the sun seeps through the clouds
the breeze rustles the leaves –
mimosa, banana, papaya and coconut palm,
freeing last night’s rain – liquid light
suspended, then falling,
as all eventually falls.
